Namaste: Its Meaning and Origin
You’ve heard the word Namaste before, maybe in your Yoga Class. But do you know what it means and where it comes from?I often use Namaste in my Yoga Jewelry designs, so I decided to do a little research to find out its origins and meaning.
Namaste, pronounced ” na-ma-stay” is both a spoken expression and a symbolic gesture that people use when greeting one another or in parting. The word comes from the Sanskrit and translates as “I bow to you”.
According to wikipedia, namah means bow, te means to you. Namaste is commonly translated in several ways. I most often hear it expressed as “the divine light in me honors the divine light in you”, “the God within me greets the God within you” or “the spirit in me meets the same spirit in you”.
When used as a hand gesture the palms of the hands come together over the Heart Chakra in a prayer position, with the head slightly lowered as you say Namaste to the person you are greeting.

Wear Lotus Flower Jewelry As A Symbol For Your Spiritual Journey
Why wear a lotus flower as a piece of jewelry?
In many cultures the Lotus Flower symbolizes spiritual awareness. It is often used as symbol of enlightenment. Wearing a Lotus Flower necklace or pendant is a wonderful reminder of our own individual, unfolding spiritual journey.
As a Yoga practitioner and gemstone jewelry designer, I love to create inspiring pieces of jewelry to assist me and others on the spiritual path. I often use the Lotus flower symbol in my jewelry designs. I’ll explain the meaning and significance of the Lotus flower. You just might want to wear this beautiful symbol as a representation of your own spiritual path.
Meaning and Significance of the Lotus
The lotus flower is special in so many ways.
This many petaled flower is often found growing in dirty, muddy water, where it reaches beyond the muck to float on top of the water displaying its beauty. >> Continue reading
Pink & Green Tourmaline Heart Opening Gemstones
I love it when my Yoga Practice inspires a necklaces design. The other day I was practicing some Heart Opening Yoga poses. I was moving into a pose called “the Camel”. Reaching back to touch my feet, I could feel the stretch in my body and spontaneous began to focus on the healing energies of pink and green Tourmaline.
When my yoga practice was finished I went into my bead studio and found a stunning Tourmaline Pendant. It had both the green and pink Tourmaline stones. Next I found a strand of faceted multi-color Tourmalines to string the heart opening pendant onto. Both pink and green Tourmaline are known as Heart Chakra Stones. Tourmaline has a soothing energy for the heart and can facilitate forgiveness and emotional healing.
It’s natural to put up a protective shield around our Heart Chakra to avoid pain from loss. >> Continue reading
Practicing Yoga By The Lake
The early morning sunlight filters through the Gambel Oaks and Ponderosa Trees. The hummingbirds are already active, searching for anything red, including my bandana. There is a deep quite, a peace in these woods. I take my yoga mat down by the lake. Big mountain views greet me. The lake is reflective this morning, gentle ripples creating never ending patterns. I place my yoga mat on the grass, in the sun, craving the warmth. The cool mountain air brings a chill to my still sleepy body. As I begin my yoga practice I face the sun in the east and begin doing Sun Salutations ( Surya Namaskar), sweeping my arms up over my head, reaching towards the sun, giving thanks for the warmth it provides, shining light on these beautiful grasses that surround this mountain lake. I bow down towards the earth, connecting to the Mother who provides me with everything I need. As I bring my hands back together in Namaste I give thanks for this day. >> Continue reading
Using OM Jewelry To Renew A Spiritual Practice
As 2010 begins, it’s time to re-commit to our spiritual practices. For me that is Yoga and Meditation. I find it very helpful to use the OM symbol to remind me that I am renewing my connection to “the practice”
The ancient symbol OM holds an important significance for me and helps me acknowledge my practice. By wearing OM jewelry and OM pendants, I am reminded to stay in the present moment. I remember to connect to my breath. Wearing OM jewelry allows me to stop and reflect throughout the day. As I see the OM pendant around my neck, I pause, take in a deep breath and connect to the NOW. I use my OM necklaces as tools to support my inner spiritual practice.
I enjoy making jewelry with the sacred OM symbol, combining OM pendants with healing gemstones that also assist to inspire a Yoga or Meditation practice. I am always on the look out for unique and unusual OM pendants to add to my Yoga jewelry line. Creating these Yoga inspired jewelry pieces can be very meditative. >> Continue reading

Why do Yoga?
Someone asked me the other day why I create yoga and chakra jewerly. Good question I responded and answered with— I began designing yoga and chakra jewelry as a way to support my own yoga practice. The next question followed, why do you do yoga? Even bigger question. Lots of answers came to mind, but the next day I received this email from my friends at Pathways www.pathwaysbayfield.com. This description of yoga really helps explain why yoga is so important to my life and why I love creating jewelry to help inspire the yoga path. Why Yoga?
Developed in India, yoga is a spiritual practice that has been evolving for the last 5,000 years or so. The original yogis were reacting, in part, to India’s ancient Vedic religion, which emphasized rituals. The yogis wanted a direct spiritual experience — one on one — not symbolic ritual. >> Continue reading

Music to design jewelry by
I always listen to wonderful music while I am creating my gemstone jewelry. I usually prefer soothing, calm melodies which help me stay focused on the energies of the gemstones. I love playing chant music and Deva Premal is my favorite. Today I just couldn’t find the right mix to get me motivated in creating new jewelry pieces to replace the ones that have sold on the web site. So I decided to go through my CD collection and dig out some music I hadn’t listened to in some time. While I was at it, I cleared out many old CDs I knew I no longer wanted listen to. You know the ones, you put the CD into the player get to the second or third selection and take it off. “How could I ever have purchased that one!?” We may be past the Spring Equinox but I chose today to do some spring cleaning. I always enjoy these days when I go around and clear out the old, packing it up to take to the Salvation Army or thrift stores. >> Continue reading

Amethyst for Meditation: Looking for Wisdom
I admit, I let my meditation practice slip. It hasn’t disappeared, just been put on hold. Until today. Today I put on my OM necklace with Amethyst and sat down to meditate. Inspired to come back to my meditation cushion by a Dharma Talk given by Lama Migmar Tseten. Lama Migmar is a Buddhist chaplain at Harvard University. He founded the Sakya Institute in Cambridge, MA. www.lamamigmar.com.
Lama Migmar is visiting here in Key West FL, giving talks to help “Free Your Mind” from stress, and emotional patterns that cause confusion in our lives. He presented an overview of basic techniques found in the wisdom traditions of Tibetan Buddhism for achieving tranquility and insight, cultivation of positive emotions and achieving a state of awakening. He reminded me that through meditation we can free our minds from wondering thoughts and focus attention. >> Continue reading
