In an economy where just a few dollars can make the difference in a purchase, I’m looking into ways to keep the prices of my jewelry affordable. The cost of sterling silver is rising each day. I’ve always used sterling in my jewelry designs, but now I’m faced with the reality that the current silver prices will effect the cost of my jewelry. I have to raise prices as my costs continue rise.
The good news is, I’ am exploring different options in metals. I’ve recently been using more copper in my designs. This lead to a search on the healing benefits of copper. More good news, copper is a very beneficial metal to wear for healing. Copper has long been used for its healing properties.
Historically copper has been used by humans dating back nearly 10,000 years. It was found that copper was even used in Pre-Columbian America in the area of the Middle East. Metal workers crafted bells, ornaments, weapons, beads, earrings and armor. Copper may just be the first metal used in Sumerian and Egyptian cultures as far back as 3900BC. Asian cultures and religions, such as Buddhism and Hinduism, used Copper in the creation of detailed inlays, embossed facades on palaces and temples, and ceremonial objects. So, this metal we use today has some very ancient roots.
Medicinally copper has been used for thousands of years. Ancient cultures recognized copper as a healing mineral. Copper was found useful for its healing powers both internally and externally. It is still used in the treatment of wounds and skin diseases, as well as internal diseases, anemia, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and heart disease. It is also used for its healing properties in improving circulation of blood, increasing energy and detoxification of the body. Copper is considered a mineral to increase energy and mental agility. In legend, copper is said to be the metal of the God Hermes, who facilitates mental agility, and quick wit.
Copper jewelry has been used for a hundred years or more as a remedy for many ailments, including arthritis. Copper jewelry is said to ease joint stiffness and arthritis by opening the flow of blocked energy. In this way Copper supports the body’s natural healing process.
Metaphysically Copper is known to stimulate the flow of energy and enhance psychic abilities. Known as an energy conductor copper can move energy, amplify thoughts, assist in channeling and communicating with higher dimensional beings. Copper has the ability to ground and transfer a wide array of vibrational frequencies from the spiritual to the physical. Copper is known to support healing by keeping the pathways for healing open. The many benefits to wearing copper make it a wonderful alternative to sterling silver.
So, while I’ll always continue to use sterling silver in my jewelry, I’ve expanded my focus and will incorporate copper into my necklaces, not only for the pleasing designs copper lends itself to, but for the healing energies copper can offer.
Next on the agenda is a whole new line of copper and gemstone head bands. But I’ll keep that for another time!
