Gemstones From Around The World

September 21st, 2009
crystal ball- gemshow
I recently returned from a buying trip at Denver International Gem & Mineral show. Shopping at the Denver Gem show is like taking a trip around the world.  I visited gems dealers from all corners of the globe, many who hardly speak a word of english. They bring with them amazing and exquisite mineral specimens in all sizes and shapes.  This year was no exception.  Its like visiting a fine Mineral museum.  In fact this show is where many buyers from museums come to find additions to their collections. Some of these gifts from the mineral kingdom can literally take your breath away

Here is a list of just some of the things I purchased.

  • Blue Celestite from Madagascar
  • Seraphinite and Charoite from Russia
  • Shiva Lingams from India
  • Nuummite from Greenland ( 3 billon years old)
  • Lapis from Afghanistan
  • Blue Kyanite from Brazil
  • Brand new to market Orange Kyanite from Tanzania
  • Malachite from Africa
  • Black Tourmaline from China
  • Larimar from the Dominican Republic
This show is so much fun not only to buy treasures but also to take in all the beauty that Mother Earth has to offer us.
There are tables and tables, row upon row of gemstones of every color, shape and size, from the smallest facted  Columbian Emerald to a 20 ton Quartz Crystal Cluster from Brazil.
I purchase the majority of my gemstone beads for jewelry making at this show.  From the gemstone bead dealers I found some Pink Kunzite beads which I’ve never worked with before.  I also found great new sterling silver Yoga designed pendants, lotus, Om and mudras.  I am excited to be able to expand my Yoga Jewelry line with these great new pieces.
I will be adding many of these new stones to my crystal and gemstone gallery page of my web site.  Check back often to see what is new.

Selling my jewelry at the art fair

March 2nd, 2009
A beautiful day in the Florida Keys

A beautiful day in the Florida Keys

Selling jewelry, crystals, gemstones and minerals at shows is so much fun. This weekend I displayed my collection of treasures at a local art show, sponsored by the local art gallery “ Artist in Paradise” here on Big Pine Key. The day was warm and breezy, one of those #10 days we like to boast about here in the Keys. Attendance was good as people milled about, perusing the art and crafts of local Keys artists.

What I like so much about exhibiting at art shows is meeting the people who buy my jewelry and stones. Watching the responses as folks pick up a stone or place a necklace around their neck completes the connection for me. We get to talk about how the stones make them feel, what attracts them to a certain piece. I can learn what people are looking for. I often get requests to make up something special for specific occasions or situations.

I’ve been asked to make a special healing necklace for someone who is working at a very stressful job. She said she wanted something to help her remain calm and peaceful, yet at the same time allow her to feel energized so she can get through the work day. Together we chose some gemstone beads, Ruby, Larimar, Kyanite, Rhodocroscite. The combination that was picked was not something that I would have put together based on design or color. This necklace is being designed solely by the different energies of the stones she needs at this time. Not only will it be enjoyable to make, it will offer her some needed energy.

I feel much gratitude to all of those people who passed by my display booth this weekend. Supporting local artists by making the choice to buy handmade items is a priceless experience.

Abundance and Prosperity Jewelry

February 23rd, 2009

Its time to make the shift from scarcity, lack, and fear to abundance and prosperity. I hardly ever watch the news these days. There is too much emphasis of the bleak economy, doom and gloom. I see this reflected in the people I talk with.

Thank goodness there are many people choosing to see the wonderful opportunity these times offer. Lets move into a positive space of spiritual change. Lets choose to see all that is good in our lives, to focus on gratitude and appreciation. To keep life simple, and enjoy what we already have rather than look at what is lacking.

It is with this intention that I created the Abundance and Prosperity Jewelry.

Abundance Jewelry

Abundance Jewelry

I wanted to design jewelry that would bring the wearer back to balance. A reminder of all the richness that exists in life and from that place move forward to create more abundance. I wanted to create these pieces using high quality gemstones and still be able offer them at a very affordable price. Using various size Citrine and green Jade, I now offer the necklace for under $30.00 and the bracelet for $15.00. If you are interested in purchasing these pieces please go to my web site: www.spiralsoflight.com/healing-jewelry.html

The longer we believe these thoughts about the lack of money in our economy and in our lives the longer we will be affected by the situation.

Make the shift, move into abundance.

I especially like these words from Swami Beyondanada:

“As surely as the sun comes up every morning, we have more abundant wealth than we know what to do with. Wealth is energy, and how that energy is used.

Not only have we been given solar energy to grow our food and power our lives, we’ve been given soul energy as well – to use and magnify our resources wisely. With the collapse of the house of credit cards economy, we can finally get real. We can use the two most underdeveloped resources on the planet, love and imagination, to re-grow our Garden and have a heaven of a time doing it.”—Steve Bhaerman/Swami Beyondananda

Beads, Beads and more Beads

Beads, beads & more beads

I am shopping. Shopping for gems, beads and jewelry at the Gem and Lapidary wholesale show in Orlando, FL. I visited table after table covered with all different shapes, sizes and textures of beads. Everything from A-Z is here. I found some really nice Lapis from Afghanistan, in shapes I hadn’t had before. I came across some citrine ovals. They will be used in an abundance necklace, I have been wanting to create. Because I bought many strands I was able to get them at a good price, which will make the abundance necklace very affordable. That is what makes going to a gem show so much fun, you never know what you will find, and sometimes you find real bargains.
Not only did I find beads, I found some exceptional pendants to create into necklaces. A Wonderful carved Quan Yin made from orange Carnelian and a Buddha carved from Nephrite Jade. From a Tibetan dealer I purchased some beautiful handmade Tibetan beads made with old Tibetan Turquoise.
With February just around the corner, I stocked up on hearts in a variety of gemstones, and bought pounds of rough Rose quartz, the stone of love. I am going to place some around the entrance to my home, creating a vortex of healing love energy.
I am going home with new treasures, I can’t wait to sit down at my work table and begin creating with these new gems. Inspired and ready to begin the new year with new ideas and creativity.
