Walking the Crystal Labyrinth

I went to Vermont in May to attend the  Stones of the New Consciousness: Healing, Awakening and Co- creating with Crystals, Minerals and Gems. The conference was led by Robert Simmons author of “The Book of Stones” which in the field of Crystals is now considered the “must- have” book on learning about the metaphysical properties of gemstones.
This conference however went much further into the exploration of our relationship with the stones. I’ve been trying now for almost 2 weeks to put into words my experiences of this intensive workshop. What I’ve recently come to realize is,  my difficulty in finding the words to describe what I learned at the 4 day seminar is  beacuse this conference was more of an experience rather than “learning”. While my mind wants to make sense of the weekend, it was my heart, that was awakened into the awareness of a partnership with the stones. Robert reminded me of my co- creative relationship with the stone beings. Each one of us can bring the qualities of the stones into manifestation through our awareness of them and through our own spiritual connection to nature and the divine. This is the awakening process. The stones can help us awaken and as we do we awaken, their message and their qualities can be realized. As we awaken, we help the whole planet to awaken. That is the message of the stone called Azezulite. It carries the awakened frequency of Quartz.

 
So, while I can talk about how wonderful it was to be lead on a Shamanic Journey to find my Crystal Ally or how much fun it was to create high vibrational crystal meditation tools with stones like Azezutlite and Phenacite or the delight I had in creating mandalas that represented the vibration of the stones, or the deep meditation I felt while walking the Crystal Labyrinth, it is much more abstract to talk about what it was like to invite the stones into my heart, like a guest in my home. How can I put into words the experience of meeting Sophia? Sophia is the divine feminine of wisdom, called the Soul of the World. She is not visible to us, yet we see her through the beauty and harmony that exists in nature.  The stones can be seen as an expression of this wisdom, of Sophia. 
 
The New Consciousness that Simmons speaks of is coming from that place where your body feels Joy, your mind knows Truth and your heart knows Love. Then we will be living in The Light. The New Consciousness is an activity. The activity of blessing. To offer a blessing is to wish someone well, it comes from the heart. When we offer blessings out to the world we notice the divine wisdom in everything, everywhere. I invite you, as Robert Simmons invited all of us to offer blessings out to the world in everything you see, together we can bring more Joy into this world. After all, isn’t this the true messages of the stones?  Isn’t this why we so enjoy picking up and holding a crystal?

How To Choose Gemstones To Help Set Intention For The New Year

The power of this New Years Eve full moon/blue moon, can help us to get clear and focus on what we want to bring into our lives for the New Year.  What a great opportunity we have this Thursday. 
Full moon is a great time to energetically clear and cleanse your crystals and gemstones.The energy of the moonlight washes away anything that is no longer needed. I like to leave my stones out all night and into the next day so they can be charged by the light of the sun. The day before the full moon and the day after are also acceptable times to cleanse your stones. You can place them directly on the ground or put them on a soft cloth and lay them on a table where the moonlight will shine brightly onto the stones.  Even if you live in a cold climate, you can place you stones by a window so that they will get flooded with the glowing white light of Grandmother moon.
I often find that after I have placed my crystals in the moonlight, they have a brighter glow to them, shining, radiating and ready to be of service. All color gemstones can be cleansed by the moon too.
 
On New Years day take the stones and sit with them.  Just sit, breathe and reflect. See yourself anew, with a fresh start. Now bring your attention on what you would like to bring in for the New Year.
If you are having trouble focusing on what intentions you’d like to set for 2010, check to see if you have Hematite or any black stone in your collection.  Stones like Hematite are grounding stones and they can help you to focus your thoughts and desires. When we are grounded we are able to focus our thoughts, desires, dreams and intentions. There is great power in our ability to create when we are focused. If you have set yourself a New Year’s resolution, but begin to feel it slipping past you, maybe you need to be more grounded and focused on your resolution/intention. Using the gemstone Hematite will offer you this grounding energy. When we’re not grounded we tend to be spacey, we can’t concentrate or focus attention for very long. One thought after another swirls in our mind. This will prevent us from creating the very thing we are wanting. Holding a Hematite stone will help you find the mental clarity and focus you need to achieve your desires. While holding the stone, begin to think of what it is you are wanting, continue to feel the stone in your hand and visualize what your desired outcome will be. Stay with this for 5-10 minutes, always coming back to the stone in your hand when your mind begins to stray. I find it helpful to write down the intention, using as much description as I can, getting clearer and clearer in my desire while holding the hematite. Connect to the emotion of the desire
 
Let 2010 be the year you focus on self awareness and well being.  While it’s nice to set intention on the outside world of needs and wants, its time to go deeper and look at our lifestyle choices.  Are you choosing a healthy life? Focus on setting intentions that will offer you well being.

Get Some Sleep With The Gemstone PETALITE

While the holidays can be a time of celebration and fun they can also be a time of exhaustion. Traveling, parties, “on- the- go” can lead to sleep deprivation. Do you need a good nights sleep?  
The stone I use to help me get to sleep and  for going back to sleep if I awake during the night is the beautiful, soft energy of Petalite. Because Petalite is a Lithium bearing mineral it offers a soft balanced energy. Petalite’s energy is one of rest and healing.  Petalite can take me to a space where worries and concerns melt away, so that I can easily drift off to sleep, worry free of the days events and tomorrows concerns. Petalite gives me a sense that all is right in the world.  With a calm mind I can move into a restful state and give my body the sleep it needs so that I can be energized and vibrant to embrace all that this season has to offer.
 
Sleep deprivation can have serious effects on your health in the form of physical and mental impairments. Inadequate rest impairs our ability to think, handle stress, maintain a healthy immune system and moderate our emotions. 
Without adequate rest, the brain’s ability to function quickly deteriorates. The brain works harder to counteract sleep deprivation effects, but operates less effectively: concentration levels drop, and memory becomes impaired. The brain’s ability to problem solve is greatly impaired. Decision-making abilities are compromised, and the brain falls into rigid thought patterns that make it difficult to generate new problem-solving ideas.

During the holidays it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the parties, shopping and busy activities of the season. This year the best gift you can give your friends and loved ones is a healthy, relaxed YOU!  If you truly want to enjoy this special time of year, give yourself some self nurturing. 
Crystals and gemstones can help you stay calm, centered and focused during this stressful time of year.
Here are some ways to use Crystals & Gemstones to help you stay  in the holiday spirit of love, joy and happiness.
 
1. Stay focused.  We lose so much of our energy when we aren’t clear and focused on the project at hand.  Instead of multi-tasking, give yourself the joy of focused attention.  If you are having trouble staying focused, try using a Hematite or wear a Hematite necklace or bracelet.
Hematite is know as a grounding stone. Its also a stone to calm the mind. It can help us to sort things out and calm the racing mind. It helps with memory retention and is useful while writing. It also assists in dissolving negativity as it can transform the negative to a more pure state of love.
So, when you notice your mind racing around, reach for a Hematite and feel yourself grounded and focused.
 
2.  Ask for help.  Sometimes just simply letting others know you need assistance in all the preparations can relieve the pressure and feelings of doing too much.  If you are having trouble speaking up and asking for help, reach for a blue gemstone like Sodalite.  Sodalite can help you gently and calmly speak “your truth“, that is to come from you heart and express your needs to others, before frustration grabs a hold of you. No need to hit your melting point, speak up!
 
3. Rest.  Make sure you are getting the correct amount of sleep that your body needs. It’s easy to fall into erratic sleeping patterns with parties, travel, preparation, and other seasonal events. If you find it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep try sleeping with the gemstone Petalite. Petalite can take us to a dimension of rest and healing, to a space in which worries and concerns of this world are released.
 
4. Remember to Breath.  When you catch yourself holding your breath in stressful situations, remember to take a few deep breaths.  Breath in clean fresh air to rejuvenate  yourself, and exhale out stress. In stressful situations we have a tendency to breathe shallow. This can increase anxiety in our mind and body.
Choose a Quartz Crystal as a reminder to breath throughout the day.  Place it in your pocket, purse, near your desk, in the kitchen, wherever you will be. Every time you look at the crystal, stop and take a few deep breaths.  Remember to take it with you where ever you go throughout your day.  If you can, place several crystals in all the rooms of your house, car and office. Just breathe!
 
5. Nurture yourself.  Remember to take care of yourself with relaxing music, a evening bath, some quiet time. Use a Rose Quartz  as a reminder to love and nurture yourself. Rose Quartz is known as the “Stone of Love”.  Before we can love another, we must first learn to love ourselves.  Before we can give to others we must first take care of ourselves.
 
6. Stay cool, calm and collected with Fluorite.  Fluorite is my all time favorite stone for staying centered in stressful situations.  It has a cooling energy that helps us maintain our calm.  Reach for the cooling vibrations of Fluorite when you know you will be in situations that will challenge you.
 
7. Meditate.  It’s a known fact that meditation can help reduce stress, lower our heart rate and create peace within us.  Choose a purple Amethyst to assist you in meditation.  Amethyst is known as a stone of Spirituality and helps us to sit in meditation.  Give yourself the gift of meditation this holiday season and bring peace into your heart, mind and spirit.

Shamanite is a rare Black Calcite from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I was first introduced to Shamanite by my friend Charlie Mark from Florida of Mountain Mark Trading. Charlie is the world distributor for North American Black Calcite now known as Shamanite. I have been buying stones from Charlie for more than 16 years. Charlie is a distributor for the beautiful blue gemstone Larimar. So when Charlie contacted me that he would be selling the Shamanite at this years Denver Gem & Mineral show, I made sure I visited his booth and purchased a few rough polished pieces he had for sale.

Shamanite was recently discovered (2005) on privately-owned remote alpine property in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. After a year of geological research, this is now the only known deposit throughout the entire Rocky Mountain range and North America. It is said to be over 540 million years old and contains many trace minerals and micro-fossils. Shamanite is believed to be used by Native Americans for centuries for ceremonial objects. Shamanite has often been mistaken for Jet. Its color ranges from inky-black to a smoky taupe and mocha-brown. Shamanite is sometimes called “Toho”(Mountain Lion”) by tribal healers and artists.

What I noticed first in holding the stone is that it is very gentle to the touch even though it is hard, it has a soft feel to it. I wanted to rub its surface like a worry stone, turning the stone over and over in my hand. It felt very comfortable and familiar almost like a well worn coat that served to keep me warm and protected from the cold.

In reading Robert Simmons new book, Stones for the New Consciousness, he writes that Shamanite can be very useful for initiating shamanic journeys and it can help one to connect inwardly with power animals and spirit guides. It is a stone of the ancestors, aiding in communication with spiritual elders and guides on the other side as well as loved ones who have passed. It is a stone of soul retrieval. Shamanite offers spiritual protection to those who simply wear or carry it.

I recently returned from a buying trip at Denver International Gem & Mineral show. Shopping at the Denver Gem show is like taking a trip around the world.  I visited gems dealers from all corners of the globe, many who hardly speak a word of english. They bring with them amazing and exquisite mineral specimens in all sizes and shapes.  This year was no exception.  Its like visiting a fine Mineral museum.  In fact this show is where many buyers from museums come to find additions to their collections. Some of these gifts from the mineral kingdom can literally take your breath away

This show is so much fun not only to buy treasures but also to take in all the beauty that Mother Earth has to offer us.
There are tables and tables, row upon row of gemstones of every color, shape and size, from the smallest facted  Columbian Emerald to a 20 ton Quartz Crystal Cluster from Brazil.
 I purchase the majority of my gemstone beads for jewelry making at this show.  From the gemstone bead dealers I found some Pink Kunzite beads which I’ve never worked with before.  I also found great new sterling silver Yoga designed pendants, lotus, Om and mudras.  I am excited to be able to expand my Yoga Jewelry line with these great new pieces.

Zincite Is A Rare Gemstone From Poland

Rare Green Zincite Crystals

I was very fortunate to acquire some rare Zincite crystals from a  gem collector who was ready to sell his collection of green Zincite from Poland. These are incredibly beautiful Zincite crystals some with perfect terminations and hexagonal shapes.
Its been several years since I had come across any Zincite from Poland and I was quite surprised and happy to hold these very rare gems once again.

 
Zincite has a very strange origin. Zincite comes from manufacturing facilities of zinc based paint in Poland. These crystals were discovered in vents of the smelters. Zincite is Zinc Oxide and Zinc that has become gaseous during the manufacturing process combined with oxygen and cooled forming brightly colored crystals of orange, red and green. These green Zincite crystals have an appearance of glass.
 
Their energy properties are quite special.  As I hold these stones I find myself quick to get lost in their unique characteristics and qualities.  They feel light yet dense in my hands. Some are like mini crystal  laser wands with an intense vibration that quickly moves up and around my body. 
I immediately wanted to arrange them into patterns and grids on my table, changing the layouts several times.  They seemed to open up a door of creativity for me.  Soon after holding the Zincite Crystals I went into my bead studio and began designing new necklaces with a flow and ease to the process of laying out and arranging the beads. 
While Zincite balances and brings energy to all the chakras, I felt these Green Zincites have a special connection to the heart. Opening the heart chakra so that whatever creative project you are involved in, you can come from a place of love in doing it.

Zincite could be helpful to those who feel stagnate in their work and creativity, bringing a surge of energy and balance to new ideas.

 
When I come across rare stones like these I hesitate to sell them, because I’m never sure when I will be able to get more.  But these special Zincites have been boxed up for several years now and are waiting for new homes and new people to admire their beauty and uniqueness.
 
According to Robert Simmons author of “The Book of Stones“, Zincites are ideal stones for spiritual people who need to work on their lower chakras.  There is a tendency for spiritual people to focus on the higher vibrations of the non- physical domain and to neglect the material plane.  This can be revealed as low energy making it difficult for one to accomplish one’s goals.  Zincite can stimulate the three lower chakras thereby enhancing one’s life force, courage, passion, creativity, personal power and will. Once the lower chakras are activated Zincite’s energy moves on to the upper chakras carrying the awakened energies of the lower three.  This can feel like a  power surge to those unaccustomed to operating at their full energy level. Zincite can clear blockages and restore the flow of energy to the body.  Zincite’s energy can be very intense.  Most people who do not feel energy  can feel the energy of Zincite.

I am giving a presentation tomorrow night, Thursday June 25, on Manifesting with Crystals. This event is being sponsored  by the Purple Phoenix www.purplephoenix.com.  It will be held at the Asante Center in Durango Colorado.
I’ll be talking about how to use gemstones in our everyday lives to manifest the quality of life we desire.  The secret is out, we create our own realities.  Gemstones are wonderful tools to assist us in setting intention, finding focus and bringing our desires and dreams into form.  We  are more powerful than we recognize.  We are powerful creative beings.
 
In order to manifest we have to see life as we want it, not how it is.  We give our attention and our intention to what we prefer.  This is where gemstones can come in to help us.
Gemstones are energy in form.  They can carry our intentions and desires into form.
 
If we are going to make a change in our life, bring a thought, desire, wish, dream into physical form we first need to:
1. Know what we want.  Get clear.  Sometimes a way to know what we want is to know what we don’t want.  The gemstone Hematite is a stone they can help us get clear and focus on what we want.  It is a grounding stone.  When we are grounded and connected to the earth plane we can see what it is we are wanting.  When we are ungrounded our energies are all over the place, we flit from one thought to the next, never holding on to a thought or desire long enough to bring it into form. Hematite helps us to focus.  Hematite works to bring mental clarity.
 
2. Set intention.  Setting intention gives energy to the desire.  Set focus long enough to bring it into existence.  The gemstone Citrine is a stone that can help us to put energy into intention.  It helps us to get clear on our desires and intentions.  Getting clear on our intention is really the first step in manifesting.  Chose a Citrine to help you set your intention and  it will energize your personal will  by connecting you to your solar plexus chakra.
 
3. Let go of whatever has held you back from receiving.  Let go of the negative thinking that surrounds whatever it is that you are wanting to manifest.  Sometimes this it the tricky part.  Our minds get in the way and tell us, we can never have what it is we are wanting.  Step out of old programs, old ways of thinking.  Chose Black Tourmaline as a stone that can help absorb the negative thinking.  Think of Black Tourmaline like dong a smudging of your intentions, clearing away the parts that no longer serve you, leaving you with clear, positive, powerful intention.
 
Crystals and gemstones can help us find focus and clarity, set intention and bring desires into form.

What to do with a Crystal & Gemstone Collection?

I think I may have found a new sideline to my work- “Crystal and Gemstone appraiser“.
All this week  I’ve been helping a friend sort through, identify and price a large crystal and gemstone collection she recently acquired. She came to me and asked, “ What do I do with this amazing  Crystal collection my friend needs to let go of?”  I knew I could help and have some fun at the same time.
The collection contains a wide variety of beautiful gemstones and crystals which need pricing so that they can be re- sold. We have been sorting through many polished stones as well as rough mineral specimens like Malachite, Chrysocolla, Apache Tears. When a large perfect Aquamarine crystal turned up I knew the previous owner was a serious collector as this one stone is valued at more than $400.00. Mix in some Tourmalines and this gemstone collection is quite valuable.

 
We’ve been oohing and ahhing as we unwrap each new precious treasure. These gemstones have been hidden away  for years and are now welcoming the bright Florida sunshine and sea water baths.  We are getting them ready so they may find new owners who will cherish them.
 
 In exchange for my time I’ve been able to choose some treasures to keep for myself.  I uncovered a really unique piece of gem quality Lepidolite, something I’d never seen before.  This one will stay in my personal collection. Along with some stunning pieces of Danburite.  I was surprised to find a black Shiva Lingham.  Most of the Shiva Linghams I see have the unique markings on them, but this one is all black and beautiful to hold.
 
The original owner of this collection was into spheres.  There are all kinds and sizes of gemstone balls, including this rather large Crystal Ball. It needs two hands to support it.
Its been a fun week rolling my hands through pounds of tumbled stones, holding perfectly clear crystal wands, finding water bubbles in Smokey Elestials and gazing into crystal balls.
 
Anyone else need a crystal appraiser. I’m for hire.  Will trade time for treasures….

On Saturday April 18th I will be in Key West Florida at Island Alchemy offering crystal readings from 2-6pm.

Crystal readings are similar to other forms of readings, like Tarot. A person chooses 3 gemstones from my bag of stones by feeling for an energy connection with the stone. I begin to focus on the crystal’s energy and it’s specific meaning. I will share information on how that energy can help in your everyday life. The stones offer messages and are tools to assist us in bringing balance to our lives.

 

During a reading, crystals provide information and insight that may help answer questions about love, career, happiness or any other area of daily life.

Each semi-precious gemstone radiates a different energy and has it’s own unique vibration. The way the stones resonate with you helps you learn about yourself , as well as helps you to identify what is going on in your life and what needs healing and balancing. Crystal readings are a great way to get clarity on any issues you are experiencing. Crystal readings can also help you to know what crystals you should wear or carry at this time to assist you in improving any situation. A Crystal reading can help you release energy blockages and bring healing and balance back to your life.
