Spring A Time Of Renewal

Welcome Spring a time of renewal and counting blessings. Today March 20th 2011 is the first day of Spring.

With all the devastation, destruction  and violence happening on the planet at this time, it feels especially important to take time out to celebrate all the beauty and abundance that is also here for us.
I feel so blessed to be living in the Fl Keys for this Spring Equinox. My morning starts with fresh gentle breezes and bright blue skies.  Cardinals and other song birds sing their arrival as they journey back north. Last night’s full moon was spectacular to see, coming up out of the ocean so big and orange. I left some of my crystals and gemstone outside in the moonlight. One of my favorite ways to cleanse my stones is to put them outside under the full moon.  The energy of the moon light washes away anything that is no longer needed.  I like to leave them out all night and into the next day so they can be charged by the light of the sun. http://www.spiralsoflight.com/crystalblog/gemstones/full-moon-how-to-cleanse-your-crystals/

Giving Thanks

On this Thanksgiving day, I pause to give thanks for all that I have in my life, from wonderful, caring friends to a job that I love. Each and everyday there is reason to give thanks, not just on this one day that we in the US celebrate. Giving thanks for what we have in our lives is healing, brings compassion and helps us to see the world in a better place.
I’d like to share some thoughts on giving thanks and having gratitude from different sources that  have helped me. For some great ideas on how to cultivate gratitude as part of a yoga practice see Yoga Journal’s list of articles.

Cultivating gratitude is less an act of creating something that isn’t there and more of a practice of realizing what is. It’s about reminding yourself of the miracles embedded in every second of every day—from the largest blessings to the smallest moments.

Surround Yourself In Nature’s Radiant Beauty

I love it when a walk in nature inspires a creative jewelry idea.
I try to get outside everyday for a walk in the sunshine. My little Jack Russell Terrier is a good excuse to get outdoors and get some exercise. She enjoys her freedom off leash roaming in the woods and I enjoy some quiet time in nature.

About a month ago I was taking a walk in the woods with my dog near my summer home in southwest Colorado. I was on a familiar trail, one I often take. I don’t know what is was that particular day, that caused me to focus on the magnificent Ponderosa fir trees. I stood in front of these tall, straight, solid sentinels and felt such appreciation for their majestic beauty. As I walked along feeling grateful for the day and these beautiful trees, I begin to imagine which gemstones these trees represented to me.

Practicing Yoga By The Lake

The  early morning sunlight filters through the Gambel Oaks and Ponderosa  Trees.  The hummingbirds are already active, searching for anything red, including my bandana.  There is a deep quite, a peace in these woods. I take my yoga mat down by the lake.  Big mountain views greet me. The lake is reflective this morning, gentle  ripples creating never ending patterns. I place my yoga mat on the grass, in the sun, craving the warmth. The  cool mountain air brings a chill to my still sleepy body.  As  I begin my yoga  practice I face the sun in the east and begin doing Sun Salutations ( Surya Namaskar), sweeping my arms up over my head, reaching towards the sun, giving thanks for the warmth it provides, shining light on these beautiful grasses that surround this mountain lake.  I bow down towards the earth, connecting to the Mother who provides me with everything I need.  As I bring my hands back together in Namaste I give thanks for this day. >> Continue reading

Awakening on the Spiritual Path with Crystals & Stones

I went to Vermont in May to attend the  Stones of the New Consciousness: Healing, Awakening and Co- creating with Crystals, Minerals and Gems. The conference was led by Robert Simmons author of “The Book of Stones” which in the field of Crystals is now considered the “must- have” book on learning about the metaphysical properties of gemstones.
This conference however went much further into the exploration of our relationship with the stones. I’ve been trying now for almost 2 weeks to put into words my experiences of this intensive workshop. What I’ve recently come to realize is,  my difficulty in finding the words to describe what I learned at the 4 day seminar is  beacuse this conference was more of an experience rather than “learning”. While my mind wants to make sense of the weekend, it was my heart, that was awakened into the awareness of a partnership with the stones. >> Continue reading

Gemstone Jewelry Inspired by Nature

Florida KeysI am en-route from my winter home in the Florida Keys to my summer home in southwest  Colorado.  Driving through this great big country, I am in awe of the beauty of nature I see passing before me.  As I look out the window I see lots and lots of color. Mostly green.  All shades of green.  I begin to associate the colors with the energy of gemstone beads and before I know it am designing gemstone necklaces in my mind.  I am seeing the light yellow green of Peridot mixing with a deeper shade of Green with Jade add in some brown pearls and the field of freshly planted corn comes alive in a new gemstone necklace.  More Peridot now added with yellow citrine reflects the green pasture that is beaming with yellow flowers.
The sky has been stormy for some of this trip and I am reminded of  some nicely faceted Labradorite beads  with color flashes of gold for the lightening that lights up the distant sky.  As we were driving out of the Keys, the water was all shades of blue-green, melting into the deeper shades of blue reflecting in the sky.  I would choose Chrysoprase, Sodalite, and bright blue Turquoise for that necklace. >> Continue reading

What are you doing for Earth day?

In honor of Earth Day, April 22 I am going to celebrate this great planet Earth with a meditation using the gemstone Chrysocolla.  Chrysocolla is a beautiful Turquoise blue- green gemstone that reminds us of  the earth when viewed from outer space.
It is known as  a stone for healing the Earth.  Chrysocolla’s vibration is closely attuned to the Earth and can bring us into a empathic connection to Mother Earth.

Focusing attention on our Mother Earth we can send out healing energy for all living beings, for all Earth’s creatures great and small, for the land, for the water for the natural beauty and bounty that the Earth offers each and everyone of us.
While holding a Chryscocolla I will pray for healing and send out thoughts of love and appreciation.
What are you doing for Earth Day?

Plant some seeds
Breathe in the beauty of nature
Show you care
Recycle
Walk gently
Use less
Say your own prayers >> Continue reading

Selling my jewelry at the art fair

Selling jewelry, crystals, gemstones and minerals at shows is so much fun. This weekend I displayed my collection of treasures at a local art show, sponsored by the local art gallery “ Artist in Paradise” here on Big Pine Key. The day was warm and breezy, one of those #10 days we like to boast about here in the Keys. Attendance was good as people milled about, perusing the art and crafts of local Keys artists.

What I like so much about exhibiting at art shows is meeting the people who buy my jewelry and stones. Watching the responses as folks pick up a stone or place a necklace around their neck completes the connection for me. We get to talk about how the stones make them feel, what attracts them to a certain piece. I can learn what people are looking for. >> Continue reading
